How do I get barcode labels printed? Most printers should know how to print common barcodes, such as Code 39 or Interleaved 2 of 5. Barcoding has been around for more than 20 years so it has become quite common. You see it on everything. There are no special printing techniques involved; the printer must just have the ability to generate the barcode artwork. You can also print barcodes yourself on site. There are a number of manufacturers of dedicated barcode printers. These normally print a label design to your specification. One company that manufacturers a complete line of printers is Zebra Technologies. There are others listed on the help page. You can also print barcode labels using a personal computer and a laser printer. There are many barcode printing programs available for both PCs and MACs. Some are listed on the help page. There are a number of freeware and shareware programs available. There are also fonts available for several barcode types. Some are available as freeware. With a font, you type the character you want in the barcode, and the bar and space pattern for that character is printed. In general, if you are going to be printing labels on a daily basis you would want a dedicated printer. If you are going to be printing them occasionally, then a PC, with suitable software or fonts, and laser printer is probably your best choice. |
