How can I enter barcode data into an application on my PC, using a scanner with an RS-232 interface? A barcode scanner with an RS-232 interface will connect to one of the COM ports on your PC. However, most applications are not set up to retreive data from the COM port. The solution is a program called a software wedge. This software makes a scanner connected to a COM port behave like a hardware wedge. That is, barcode data will appear in the application as though it were entered from the keyboard. Two sources of software wedge programs are: TAL Technologies and Skandata. |
